The Bawazir Group, through its subsidiary Delta Danube, opened a mushroom plantation on a 7.5-hectare plot of land in Kovin, which is located some 80 kilometers east of the Serbian capital of Belgrade. According to a statement released by the Indonesian Embassy in Belgrade received here, a land lease contract was signed by Mayor of Kovin Sanja Petrovic and Chief Executive of Delta Danube Nebojsa Panic on May 19. The agreement on the land lease is the first step to realize Delta Danube’s investment, which covers building construction, production, and end-product delivery for consumers in Serbia and overseas.
The management of Delta Danube believes that the mushroom business in Kovin will develop well due to the availability of ideal climatic conditions and fertile lands, besides adequate labor. Indonesian Ambassador to Serbia Harry R. J. Kandou has expressed hope that the mushroom plantation business will expand and strengthen the economic cooperation and relationship between Indonesia and Serbia.“We sincerely hope the administration of Kovin city and the community always support the business run by Delta Danube,” he remarked.
Furthermore, the management of Delta Danube, Sunil Mamgaim, noted that in Indonesia, the company can produce as much as 26 tons of mushrooms per day. “With this experience, we hope the mushroom business in Kovin grows fast and becomes the biggest plantation in the Balkan region in the future,” Mamgaim stated.
Mayor Petrovic also pointed out that the administration had opened opportunities for cooperation with Indonesia in the fields of economy, tourism, culture and education.
The Bawazir Group has a number of subsidiaries engaged in various fields, including banking, real estate, agriculture, food processing, fisheries, mining, and general trading. Delta Danube’s project adds to the list of Indonesian investments in Serbia, which have seen positive growth despite being limited. Furthermore, the Indonesian Embassy in Belgrade invites business players from the country to explore opportunities in Serbia and Montenegro either through trade cooperation schemes or through investments. The markets in both countries are open for Indonesian products, and the locations are suitable to serve as hubs to enter the European market.
The total investment, which will be implemented in the next three years, amounted to 9.5 million euros, will open approximately 400 new jobs.
