Pre-sliced mushrooms way of the future?

In today’s environment of fast paced life and trends leading fruit and vegetable sales, Commercial Director Piotr Strzelecki from the Hajduk Group in Poland believes that the future of mushrooms is offering them pre-sliced in supermarkets. Although supermarkets have not shown much interest thus far, the company continues to believe that sliced mushrooms are the way of the future.

According to Piotr, “One only needs to look in the supermarket to see the demand. Consumers have less and less time due to work and busy lifestyles, which has led to a big push in ready-to use products. We believe this includes mushrooms.”

Established in 2008, Hajduk Group of Mushroom Producers Ltd., is a part of the mushroom cultivation process from start to finish, starting with compost production all the way to using its own fleet for transportation. This helps the group have complete control over the quality of the end product. The company produces white mushrooms, brown mushrooms, shiitake, portobello and shimeji. They also have seasonal asparagus and chanterelle mushrooms. Around 80% of the company’s customers are supermarkets. Piotr say that 10% of the mushrooms are sent out to the domestic market, 60% to Germany and the remaining 30% is sent to the UK, Norway and Greece.
