Mushrooms increasingly popular in Germany

The sales amount of fresh mushrooms in Germany increased by a quarter over the last seven years. This conclusion was made by the German Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI). Even in the last year the production of mushrooms in German companies increased from 62,000 to 64,000 tonnes. Around 8,000 tonnes of this is processed. The other 56,000 tonnes ends up in consumers’ kitchens. Around the same amount is imported from neighbouring countries such as Poland and the Netherlands.

The big winner in the increase of the mushroom consumption is the brown mushroom, according to the AMI. It has had an increase of 10.4% over the last seven years. All mushrooms combined had an increase of 3.5%.
