New mushroom based, meat-free product: the “Pulled port”

A new product, which is excellent meat-free meal, was launched by To-Jo Mushrooms, a family owned company in Pennsylvania, one of the largest mushroom growing companies in the USA. The Pulled Port line is the latest addition to the company’s value-added foodservice product line, according to a news release. The product is a mushroom-based meatless alternative that meets the demand for vegetarian dining options in the foodservice space.

The new product includes of course, mushroom (white button and portobello), whose appearance is similar to the traditional BBQ pulled pork. For the time being, the product is available in 4 varieties and in practical, pouch packaging. The producer provides detailed recipe ideas for the product, as well as serious marketing support on the company’s website and social media.

“The new plant-based meat was created through an innovative, lengthy production process,” says Tony D’Amico, the president of To-Jo, whose family has owned the farm for four generations. “We really took our time on this project to give ourselves the best chance at success. So far, the product feedback has exceeded our expectations.”
