Arrested Grower – Cannabis grew beside the oyster mushroom

The Hungarian National Bureau of Investigation (KRNNI) is investigating Gyula F., a 41-year-old resident of Budapest, on suspected drug offenses. In Budafok, the oyster mushroom farmer grew cannabis plants in his mushroom cellar.

The cellars – which is currently used for mushroom cultivation – were excavated in the 19th century during limestone mining. The suspect rented such a cellar from local government near his residence. In the first part of the cellar he grew oyster mushrooms. Later, he detached the back of the room, about 400 m², with a fan-concealed door.

Detectives who arrived at the scene on September 10, 2019 were asked to wear a safety mask because the oyster mushroom spore is dangerous. This is how he tried to make sure the policemen could not smell the drug and find the hiding place. Based on the clues found on the scene and the suspect’s behavior, the investigators opened the wall. Behind the wall was found the other halls of the cellar, the cannabis plantation in them, which contained 386 pre-harvest plants. Tools found on site suggest that cannabis has been cultivated for a long time in the cellar.

Experts from the energy company who came to the scene determined that the man was taking electricity to bypass the electricity meter for lighting and ventilating plants. It has been established that this is probably the reason for the recent power outages.

Gyula F. was arrested and questioned by suspects at the National Bureau of Investigation and then taken into custody.
